Birthing Bag Essentials: What You Should Really Pack


Packing your hospital bag can be both an exciting and daunting task! For some women it's a part of nesting and for others it's just one one more thing to think about. You hope you won't have to stay at the hospital for too long but since there is no way of knowing it's always better to be over prepared.


After doing much research and packing my own birthing bag, I have created a list of what I consider the "essentials." Use this list as your guide and have the most comfortable hospital stay possible!


Essentials for Mom During and After Labour and Delivery:

1. Gown or robe for delivery and/or after

2. Sports Bra or Nursing Bra

3. Pyjamas

4. Sweatpants or something comfortable to go home in

5. Comfortable Underwear/Mesh Underwear

6. Depends underwear

7. Maxipads

8. Socks

9. Slippers

10. Hair Elastics

11. Snacks

12. Water bottles

13. Hand Cream

14. Lip Balm

15. Face Wash

16. Body Wash

17. Deodorant 18. Face Cream

19. Toothbrush and Toothpaste

20. Hand sanitizer

21. Hair Brush

22. Pillow (with dark pillow case)

23. Glasses/Contacts/Contact Solution

24. Cell Phone Charger

25. Flip Flops

26. Hand and Body Towel

27. Make Up

28. Breast pads

29. Nipple Cream/Ointment

30. Sitz Herbs and Peri-Bottle

31. Health Card, Hospital Papers, ID etc.
